It was the stuff of legions. Not of men, but of God and His awesome promises. I had driving down Central Avenue in McKinleyville, Ca more times than I could count. Something was different that day in December. My route to the church, the business and the people were nothing out of the ordinary. Something inside me was beginning to stir. I was feeling the pressure of things to come. I was down to my last few hundred dollars didn’t help as I pondered the near future. This was the low point in my life financially. Not even the excitement of Sunday’s sermon, which I was planning to write that day was able to trump the heaviness that was mounting. Inside of me, I could feel the weight and heaviness growing, at the same time hope wanted to hide. It felt like the darkness invading the world as the day transitions to night. I knew what do, pray.
Just ahead of me were several things that I had no control over: (1) My wife and I were going to Stanford Hospital in a week for her cancer surgery, and renting the apartment the hospital made available would cost nearly $1,500. (2) My daughter was graduating from High School and had several things that demanded money I didn’t have. (3) My church was struggling to pay my full salary each month. Then to top it all off, (4) I couldn’t even pay my monthly bills. As I drove on, things looked bleak, so my only recourse was to pray. I cried out to the Lord for help as I had done many times before. Suddenly, at 35 miles per hour and the lights all green, a faith came over me. I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit riding with me. The Spirit spoke to my heart, “Everything is going to be fine.” I had asked the Lord to take the burden and give me plenty of money for all those things facing me and my family. Miraculously, the stress was gone almost immediately. Even thought it was daytime, a light and hope filled my truck and world. That night I received a phone call guaranteeing $1,500 soon. As God is my witness, in a matter of 7 days, I had $10,000 dollars in my hand. Two weeks later, another $5,000 was in the bank. Wow! What an amazing God I serve.
That day in December my Heavenly Father cracked open one of the many windows in Heaven. He did it just for me. In His love and Sovereignty a financial blessing was poured out in a supernatural way. He used people to change my circumstances. Heaven rained down provisions to me, my family, and even my church family. Long ago I learned, “The hand that is open to give is open to receive.” God has always come through financially for me in the past. As a teenager I learned to give and tithe. Today, God is only doing what He promised. This he choose to do things in a much greater bigger way. I love it when my Father in Heaven shows up and shows off.
Malachi 3:10 (NKJV)
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this," Says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be roomenough to receive it.”
